Saint Sava, was a Serbian Prince and an Orthodox monk, he was also the first Archbishop of the autocephalous Serbian Church. He is also the founder of Serbian Law and literature. Before he became a Monk, his name was Rastko Nemanjic, he was the youngest of the Serbian Grand Prince Stefan Nemanja, the founde of the Nemanjic Dynasty. He shortly ruled the Hum, principality, from 1190-1192. He became a monk in his youth, when he became a monk he got his name Sava. He subsequently found the famous monasteries Hilandar and Zica. He fought for the independence of the Serbian church; finally his visions were fulfilled in 1219, when he was recognized As the First Archbishop of Serbs, by the Patriarch of Constantinople, in the same year St. Sava wrote the oldest known constitution of Serbia, by doing so he gained Serbia full political and religious independence.



In Serbian history he is considered as one of the most important figures, he is considered, by the Serbian Orthodox church as its founder, on January 27. His life and ideas were shown and interpreted by many Serbian middle age artists. He is the patron saint of Serbian Schools and school children.  The cathedral of Saint Sava is located in Belgrade, it was built on the place where the Ottoman Turks burnt his remains in the 16th century, and the cathedral is currently the largest Eastern Christian church building in the world.
